Agroecology and cropping practiced group

The research program of the Group refers to the improvement of the cultivation of arable crops by applying a system of cropping and agroecological measures in the natural and irrigation water regime, with the aim of creating conditions for the maximum use of the genetic potential. Experimental research is carried out from the aspect of the selection of hybrids and varieties for different agroecological conditions, different crop rotations, tillage systems, cover crops, the influence of sowing method and density on crop yield and properties of soil and cultivated plants; development of the cultivation system of field crops for the production of healthy food; examination of the effects of the application of fertilizers on soil properties and the content of certain substances in cultivated plants that are important for growth and biosynthesis of substances. In addition to the above, the research program includes the optimization of herbicide application in order to achieve maximum efficiency.

Laboratory for agrochemistry

In the laboratory, the basic characteristics of the soil, the content of macroelements, as well as organic matter are determined, based on which the optimal soil needs for nutrients are determined and recommendations for fertilization are given. In addition, the impact of different cultivation systems on both soil and cultivated plants is studied, with the aim of preserving soil fertility and defining optimal conditions for the growth and development of cultivated plants.

Weed science laboratory

Studies are particularly focused on the establishment of a system of integrated and agroecological measures in weed control as well as measures in order to reduce reliance on herbicides. The concepts of these systems are the development of weed control programs through the combined application of preventive, direct, mechanical, chemical, biological and other measures.
